Hs anybody seen this marvelous magazine? I was just wondering what people thought of it as a resource? Do you find their tips, etc. interesting? Have you ever heard of it? What are your favorite other resources for bookmaking?

    Hi Claire
Somerset Studio has been around for several years now. It's a very slick mag. full of interesting topics on varied subject matter. Their main focus seems to be on the rubber stamping industry with small parts on bookmaking, calligraphy and surface treatments.
I used to subscribe to this mag. but after a few years I quickly got tired of the same kind of formatting and let it lapse. There is far too much advertising and not enough "how to do" things. I do think they are trying to appease the crafter at large with snippets of everything.

My favorite resources for bookmaking is the bookstores, where I buy my own how-to-bind books. There are many to chose from these days.
A subscription that I do like is Tabellae Ansatae, which has far more interesting topics on bookmaking than Someset Studio.

I always have mixed feelings about this magazine. Some of the artists in it are very, very interesting, but frequently it does feel like the same ole thing every issue. The books that they've published are interesting also. I read it for the techniques or ideas to steal and try hard not to be too concerned with the crappy artwork.

A friend of mine and I are hoping that someday they spin off the Melange section into its own magazine. That would be interesting.

I should also add that I usually refer to books about artist's books for resources and instructions on bindings and also i try to visit Center for Book Arts every so often to see what's int the gallery. 'Course, I'll have to find some new place to visit once I move to TX...

www.dogearedmagazine.com is also a pretty good resource.
