i have been experimenting with coptic bindings lately, and have not found a good way to tie off the threads when i'm done sewing the covers on so they aren't incredibly visible somewhere on the book (either on the spine or inside one of the signatures). any suggestions? anybody got some good coptic binding techniques or tips they'd like to share?

actually, i always liked the tie offs, so ive never thought of ways to hide them. you might be able to do something like i do in knitting, where you twine an end piece around an already placed piece, it would still be visible, but it wouldnt stick out as much?

in traditional binding, knots are tied when the thread is in the middle of signiture using a special knot that lies flat.

Aaargh!! Please can somebody tell me how to get the tension just right in coptic binding? I've the both the one-needle and two-needle methods, and the books are either too loose, or the covers won't lie flat! Is there an easy way to get the tension right?
        Thanks :)
