hi -

i have been using davey chip board for years, but i've been searching the web for a new source to buy it from (cheaper per board, better shipping etc...)
i somehow just discovered davey red label binder's board -
is this different then the usual acid free davey chip board?

thanks!

    hi jennifer,

i'm glad you asked this question because it forced me to finally find the answer. diane akright from the rock-tenn company has this to say about davey board --
"Davey was a company that made wet lap bookboard product that was designed to meet a variety of bookboard needs. One of those products was Davey Red Label (often described as Davey Board). Rock-Tenn Company purchased the Davey company in 1997 and has since incorporated the Red Label product and the Acid Phree product into our product line.

All other Davey Board lines have been discontinued. Red Label is a high density bookboard product that meets all NASTA textbook specifications. Red Label is sold in some stock caliper and sheet sizes, and is mostly sold through a series of distributors since many times customers needs are too low for production runs."

hope this helps. have a lovely fall!

      thanks khajha!

do you think, from her quote, that the red label product is acid free?

I took it to mean the Red Label was not. I emailed her to clarify just that point and have not heard back yet. If you like I will follow up here when I do!

Alright, I finally got a follow-up from Diane Akright at RockTenn about Red Label and here it is:

"Red Label alone is not an acid free product. We make a Davey (wet lap process) Acid Phree that is an acid free product and meets the same specifications of Red Label.

If you truly need an acid free product, you would need to order Davey Acid Phree and not just Davey Red Label."

          And there we have it.
